Tax Exemption for First Nations and Native AmericanUpdated 3 minutes ago
This article explains how tax exemption works for eligible First Nations (Canada) and Native American (United States) customers when ordering scooters and accessories from Apollo.
Who may qualify
You may qualify for tax exemption when:
- You have valid Indigenous status or tribal documentation (for example, a Canadian Certificate of Indian Status or a U.S. tribal ID).
- Your order is for personal use.
- Your order is shipped to a qualifying reserve or tribal address, where required by local tax rules.
Tax exemption usually does not apply to:
- Orders shipped to off-reserve or non-tribal addresses.
- Customers who are Inuit or Métis (Canada), or who do not have recognized tribal status (U.S.).
- In‑person pickups or deliveries away from reserve/tribal land where on‑reserve/on‑tribal delivery is required.
Canada – First Nations customers
In Canada, First Nations customers may be eligible for tax exemption when all of the following apply:
- You have a valid Certificate of Indian Status (status card).
- The purchase is for personal use.
- The order is shipped directly to an on‑reserve address.
If your order is not shipped to a reserve (for example, shipped to a city address or picked up off‑reserve), the tax exemption generally cannot be applied.
Documents you’ll need (Canada)
To request tax exemption as a First Nations customer in Canada, you’ll typically need:
- A clear photo or scan of your status card (front and back).
- Your 10‑digit registry number and/or band name.
- Your full on‑reserve delivery address and phone number.
- Your order details (for example, scooter model and accessories you want to purchase).
United States – Native American customers
In the United States, tax exemption for Native American customers depends on the rules of your state and tribe. In many cases, tax exemption is linked to:
- Your recognized tribal status, and
- Delivery to tribal land, Indian country, or another qualifying location defined by your state.
Because the rules vary, tax exemption may not always be available, even if you are a tribal member.
Documents you’ll need (United States)
To request tax exemption as a Native American customer in the U.S., you’ll typically need:
- Proof of tribal enrolment or recognized Native American status (for example, a tribal ID).
- Your full shipping address and phone number.
- Any state‑required sales tax exemption form or certificate, if applicable.
- Your order details (scooter model and accessories you want to purchase).
When tax exemption does not apply
Your order will usually not qualify for tax exemption if:
- It is shipped to an address that does not qualify as reserve/tribal land under local rules.
- You cannot provide the required status or tribal documentation.
- Local tax rules do not allow exemption for your specific situation.
In these cases, your order can still be placed and shipped normally, but standard taxes will apply.
