Folding Latch Hinge BrokenUpdated a day ago
The hinge of the folding latch that secures the stem while folded is broken due to a chip or crack in the handlebar assembly at the hinge mount.
Example: The latch no longer holds, the hinge area is visibly chipped, and the stem cannot be secured in the folded position.
Symptoms
- Visible chip, crack, or break at the hinge mount area on the handlebar assembly
- Folding latch cannot secure the stem in the folded position
- Excessive play or misalignment at the latch/hinge interface
- Latch pin or hook no longer engages properly
Causes
- Impact damage from a strong fall or collision
- Excessive stress from improper lifting, tying down, or overloading at the hinge
- Prior micro-cracks that propagated after repeated stress
Solution
The hinge mount is integral to the handlebar assembly; structural damage here is not repairable. The correct remedy is to replace the entire handlebar assembly.
