Fender Rattling or Clanking NoiseUpdated 9 hours ago
The scooter’s fender produces a rattling or clanking noise while riding over bumps or uneven surfaces, or when lifting/moving the scooter by hand.
Symptoms
- Metallic or plastic rattling coming from the rear or front fender area
- Clanking noise when going over bumps or curbs
- Noise reduces or stops when pressing a hand against the fender
- Visible movement or wobble of the fender when gently shaken
Causes
- Loose fender mounting screws or hardware
- Fender bracket fasteners loosening over time due to vibration
- Cracks around the fender mounting points on the bracket or suspension arm
- Deformed fender or worn bushings/washers allowing play
Tools Required
- Metric hex/Allen key set
- Phillips screwdriver (if applicable to your model)
- Medium-strength threadlocker (e.g., blue)
Solution
Tighten loose fasteners and inspect mounting points for damage. If cracks or deformations are found, replace the fender and/or bracket as needed.
- Check and tighten all fender and bracket screws to the manufacturer’s torque spec
- Add medium-strength threadlocker to fender mounting screws to prevent loosening
- Replace any stripped screws, missing washers, or worn rubber isolators
- If mounting points are cracked on the fender or bracket/suspension arm, replace the faulty component
- After repair, road-test and recheck torque after 10–20 km
Troubleshooting Steps
- Visually inspect the fender, bracket, and mounting points for cracks or elongation around screw holes.
- Manually wiggle the fender; note movement or noise from specific fasteners.
- Verify all fender and bracket screws are present and seated; tighten.
- Apply threadlocker to secure the screws.
- If noise remains, remove the fender to inspect hidden contact points.
- If the fender developed any cracks, replace it.
