Damaged Rim and Flat Tires

Apollo scooters use tubeless tires that rely entirely on an airtight seal between the tire bead and rim to hold air pressure. Riding with flat or low-pressure tires removes this cushioning, so hitting a pothole or hard obstacle transfers force directly to the rim, often bending or cracking it. This damage frequently breaks the bead seal, causing persistent air loss that mimics a puncture.

Why Rim Damage Causes Flats

Tubeless tires on Apollo scooters have no inner tube, making the rim-tire seal critical for air retention. When you ride on a flat or underinflated tire and strike a pothole, the rim flexes or deforms under impact, widening gaps in the seal. Air escapes through these compromised areas, and the tire won't hold pressure even after reinflation until the rim is repaired or replaced.

  • Tire repeatedly goes flat shortly after inflating, with no visible punctures.
  • Bubbles appear along the bead when spraying soapy water on the inflated tire.
  • Vibration, wobbling, or pulling to one side during rides.
  • Visual bends, dents, cracks, or scratches on the rim edge.

How to Diagnose

  1. Deflate the tire fully and break the bead seal using tire levers.
  2. Remove the tire and spin the rim by hand—watch for wobbles or irregularities.
  3. Inspect the rim flange and bead seat for damage; feel for sharp edges or dents.
  4. Clean both surfaces thoroughly before reinstalling to test the seal.

Repair Steps

  • Minor rim bends: Take to a professional scooter or bike shop for straightening—avoid if cracks exist.
  • Damaged rims: Replace with genuine Apollo OEM motor to ensure proper tubeless compatibility.
  • Seal restoration: Clean rim and tire bead with isopropyl alcohol, and reseat using soapy water or a compressor.
  • Inflate to the model's recommended PSI and check for leaks.

Prevention Best Practices

  • Check tire pressure before every ride using a reliable gauge.
  • Avoid rough roads, potholes, and curbs when tires are low.
  • Use tubeless sealant regularly to self-seal minor bead leaks.
  • Inspect rims after any impact and replace worn components promptly.
