Bent Motor Rim Guide: Causes, Effects, and SolutionsUpdated an hour ago
Bent or damaged motor rims can lead to tire installation problems, air leaks, and reduced riding safety. This guide explains how bent rims occur, how they affect your scooter, and what solutions are available.
1. Common Causes of Bent Motor Rims
Riding on a Flat Tire
Continuing to ride with a flat tire is one of the most common causes of rim damage. Doing so can:
Scratch or deform the rim surface
Damage the tire wall
Force tire sealant (gel-type) out of the tire and onto the motor - particularly if the motor is hot
This combination can lead to long-term performance issues and makes proper tire sealing more difficult.
Impacts From Riding Conditions
Bent rims can also result from high-impact riding situations, such as:
Jumping off curbs or uneven surfaces
Landing hard with low tire pressure
Exceeding the tire’s PSI limits during impact, which can cause a blowout and subsequent rim deformation
Even with normal riding, hitting the sidewall of the tire/motor against hard objects - or improper storage that presses weight onto the wheel - can also bend the rim.
2. How Bent Rims Affect Your Tire and Scooter
Any deformation of the rim, including bends, sharp edges, or stretching, can directly affect how the tire seats on the rim. This may cause:
Difficulty mounting new or existing tires
Air leaks due to improper bead sealing
Further tire damage from sharp or uneven rim edges
For these reasons, continuing to ride on a bent rim is not recommended.
3. Solutions and Recommendations
Motor Replacement
In the majority of cases, a bent motor rim requires a full motor replacement. Because the rim is integrated into the motor assembly, it cannot typically be reshaped or repaired safely.
Warranty & Coverage Information
Accidental damage and wear-and-tear are not covered under the standard warranty.
Riders in the USA may be able to claim accidental damage through Extend Warranty, depending on coverage details. To file a Claim should you have purchased the extended warranty, see link here: https://www.extend.com/
If a motor rim arrives damaged right out of the box, with zero miles of use, this may indicate a shipping or manufacturing issue. In this case, please contact our support team at [email protected] with clear photos so we can assist with a warranty claim or replacement.
