Scooter Usage in Varying Weather Conditions
Can Apollo electric scooters be used in the rain?
You may be wondering if running through a puddle or riding in the rain may ruin a brand new scooter. Well, the truth is it depends on your scooter. But rest assured, all Apollo Scooters are IP certified- so yes, your scooter is safe from water damage*.
What is IP certification?
The IEC ( International Electrotechnical Commission) introduced IP ratings to evaluate the effectiveness of electrical enclosures in resisting dust and liquid intrusion. This standardized framework introduced clarity and reliability by defining the required tests for verifying compliance.
How do I read IP ratings?
The IP code is composed of 2 numerals: The first numeral refers to the protections against solid objects and is rated on a scale from 0-6. The second numeral rates the enclosures protection against liquids. In this case, the scale begins at 0 ( meaning no protection) and goes all the way up to 9.
What is the ideal IP rating on a scooter?
There is no unique answer, it really depends on how you use your scooter. However, we believe that a scooter must have a minimum IP56 rating to ensure you have an extraordinary and worry free journey.
What's the IP rating for Apollo Scooters?
Every scooter in our lineup boasts a minimum IP56 rating for water-resistance, with the Apollo Phantom having the lowest IP rating at IP56. The rest of our lineup features an impressive IP66 rating, ensuring they are dust tight and safe guarded against water jets. Find out about the IP rating and other certifications in our compare scooters page.
Can I use my Apollo scooter in the winter?
It's not advised to ride your electric scooter directly on snow, as the warranty doesn't cover water damage. However, you can use it during winter if the roads are well-maintained.
Keep these points in mind:
• Your scooter is water-resistant, not waterproof, so avoid prolonged exposure to snow.
• Cold temperatures can affect your battery's ability to hold a charge, resulting in reduced range. This issue should resolve once temperatures rise to 10-20 degrees Celsius.
• Be extra careful when turning, as scooters have two wheels and are prone to slipping on slippery surfaces.
• Finally, be particularly cautious while turning, as the two-wheeled nature of scooters increases the risk of slipping.
Can I use my Apollo scooter in hot weather?
Yes, electric scooters like the Apollo Air, Apollo City, Apollo Phantom, Apollo Go and Apollo Pro can be used in the heat, as they have built-in temperature sensors to prevent overheating. You can monitor the temperature through the mobile app, specifically in the ride logs section.
