Scooter Not Accelerating After Setup: Check Your Kickstart ModeUpdated 3 hours ago
If your scooter isn't accelerating after a recent unboxing or first ride, Kickstart mode may be the cause. Here's what it is and how to turn it off.
What Is Kickstart Mode?
Kickstart mode is a safety feature enabled by default on new scooters. It requires you to push off with your foot to reach a minimum speed before the motor engages, similar to how a manual kick-scooter works. This prevents the scooter from accelerating immediately when you step on it, which is especially useful for first-time riders getting used to the throttle.
Note: Because Kickstart is on by default, a scooter that seems like it "won't accelerate" right out of the box is often just waiting for that initial push before the motor kicks in.
How to Disable Kickstart Mode
- Open the Apollo App.
- Go to Settings.
- Find Kickstart and toggle it off.
- Try accelerating again — the motor should now engage directly from the throttle, no push-off needed.
Tip: If you prefer the added safety of Kickstart, you can leave it on and simply give the scooter a light push before applying throttle.
