Brake Light Always On and Flashing When BrakingUpdated 2 days ago

On most Apollo scooters, it is normal for the rear light to stay on as a running light and then flash or change intensity when you brake. This is a built‑in safety feature and, on many models, it cannot be turned off.

What You’re Seeing

  • Rear light stays on while riding:
    • Works as a constant “tail light” so others can see you from behind.
  • Light flashes or brightens when you brake:
    • Acts as an active brake light to signal that you are slowing down or stopping; flashing brake lights are explicitly recommended for visibility.

On some models or modes (such as certain Eco or “walking” modes), the rear light may flash continuously or behave differently as part of regional safety/visibility requirements.

Can You Turn It Off?

  • For many Apollo models:
    • The rear running/brake light cannot be disabled via the display or app, by design, because it is treated as a safety feature.
  • Even when you can change other lighting (deck lights, sometimes headlight), the core brake/tail light is generally designed to remain active for rider safety.

If your scooter is behaving like this from new, and the rear light:

  • Stays on constantly while riding, and
  • Flashes or brightens when you pull the brake,

then this behaviour is considered normal and not a defect.

When To Be Concerned

  • Light does not change at all when braking (no flashing or brightening).
  • Light is off completely even when powered on.
  • Light flashes erratically or is accompanied by other issues (error codes, wheel locking unexpectedly, regen stuck on, etc.).

In those cases, there could be:

  • A stuck brake sensor,
  • A wiring issue,
  • Or a controller/firmware fault that needs diagnosis.
